Tourism is a key driver of economic activity in destinations, stimulating investment, employment, and the development of supporting industries. When managed responsibly, it can generate broad-based value creation while contributing to regional prosperity. At the same time, understanding the economic outcomes of tourism is essential to ensure that growth aligns with the wider goals of sustainability and community well-being.
In Tyrol, the guiding principle is a balanced tourism development—one that gives equal importance to economic stability, ecological sustainability, and social equity. Monitoring the quantitative evolution of supply, demand, and value added therefore plays a central role in assessing economic performance and supporting evidence-based decision-making.
Key Performance Indicators
For this key issue area, TYSTO builds on a well-established data foundation, focusing on the measurement of supply, demand, and added value as key dimensions of economic benefit. These indicators are collected and updated regularly by the Tyrolean Regional Statistics Division, while the resulting value added is calculated by MCI Tourism. Additionally, the annually published F.acT poster by MCI Tourism and Tirol Werbung provides a concise overview of key figures for Tyrol’s 34 tourism associations. This systematic data framework enables the ongoing evaluation of tourism’s economic contribution and supports Tyrol’s efforts toward a resilient and sustainable destination economy.
